SEARCHING FOR THE OUTSIDERS OF THE FANTASTIC

The 8th Seminar of the Finnish Fantastic Researchers will take place in Jyväskylä, Finland, in connection with the FINNCON 2007. We wish to invite papers on the theme: essays, academic seminar papers, parts of
dissertations etc. The theme of this year's seminar is OUTSIDE, being outside and outsider, widely understood as the social, cultural or ethnic condition of 'the outsider'. Research material may include literature, movies, TV-series and any other cultural product in the wide field of science fiction and fantasy.
The aim of the seminar is to promote Finnish multidisciplinary research of science fiction and fantasy and to enhance the internationalization of the Finnish research network. Teachers of the seminar are researcher Irma Hirsjärvi (University of Jyväskylän), professor Frans Mäyrä (University of Tampere), professor Liisa Rantalaiho (University of Tampere) and researcher Markku Soikkeli (University of Tampere).
The deadline of an abstract of 500 words is June 1st 2007. It should be sent by e-mail, preferably in Word- or RTF-format to the address markku.soikkeli at uta.fi You will receive a message about the acceptance of your paper and further info by June 15th. For the seminar we wish to receive a presentation of 4-8 pages of your research. If the number of participants allows, Papers can also be accepted outside the theme.
Obs! The best papers have the opportunity of getting published as revised articles in the Portti magazine (http://www.sci.fi/~portti/).

Round Table Discussion: Friday 13.7., 17-18.
The Round Table Discussion on the seminar's themes is open to all participants. Articles introducing the discussion will be sent to the seminar participants in June.
